Coastal Kayaking

What Will I Be Doing?

Come kayaking with us in beautiful Mannin Bay, Connemara. We run guided kayak tours on a daily basis from the back of the Connemara Sands Hotel. Tours last 2.5 hours and are suitable for complete beginners. We provide all of the gear and equipment so all you need to worry about is having fun and saying hello to the friendly seals.

What Do I Need To Bring?

We will provide you with all the necessary equipment including user friendly sit on top kayaks, paddles, wetsuits and buoyancy aids.

All you need to bring are your swimming togs, a towel, a pair of trainers you don’t mind getting wet.  If you don’t have a pair of wet shoes we have some you can borrow.

What Time Are The Sessions?

Morning 10am – 12.30pm
Afternoon 2.30pm – 5pm

How Much Does It Cost?

1-9 px – Adult –  €55pp  Child – €40pp

10+px  Adult –  €50pp Child – €35pp

What Age Do I Need To Be?

We take children from age 8 and up. Children between the ages of 8-12 need to be accompanied by a guardian on the activities.

If we think the conditions are too challenging for the younger members of the group we will contact you in advance and offer you the option to reschedule or a full refund.

How Do I Get There?

We are based at the back of the Connemara Sands Hotel.  This hotel is close to the village of Ballyconneely and about a 15 minute drive from Clifden.  If coming from Galway, follow the N59 to Clifden and then take the R341 coast road towards Ballyconneely.  Before you reach the village keep an eye out for the sign to The Connemara Sands Hotel on the right.

When at the Hotel park in the carpark and then head around the left hand side and down the track towards the water-site.

Sunset Kayaking

What Will I Be Doing?

There is no better way to spend an evening and bask in the sunset’s beautiful colours than enjoying it from a kayak on the sea.

Because every sunset and sky is different from the previous, you’ll enjoy a sunset experience like nobody else that came before you. Either with a group of likeminded adventurers or with your own group of friends.

Sunset kayaking in Connemara with Real Adventures is an experience not to be missed when coming to this area.  Add to this a beautiful coastal journey and you have a perfect way to enjoy an evening in Irelands west.

What Do I Need To Bring?

The time varies depending on the time of year, they usually start between 6.30pm and 8pm.

How Do I Get There?

We will meet you at the back of the Connemara Sands Hotel, you can park in front of the hotel and then follow the signs to the water site which is around the back of the hotel.

If there are other group members on the same activity and you are running late we will wait a maximum of 15mins. Please note that if you are late and miss the start time we will not refund you for the activity.

Coasteering

What Will I Be Doing?

Coasteering is amazing! Explore Ireland’s west coast up close from a completely unique angle. Coasteering is a combination of scramblingclimbingadventure swimming, and cliff jumping – whilst exploring gullies, caves, cracks, beaches, cliffs, wild landscapes and a variety of rock formations created over millennia by the Wild Atlantic Ocean!

Every Coasteering session is different and we use an amazing location that our expert guides know inside out to insure we will provide you with an amazing and safe Coasteering session in Connemara.

Coasteering can be for everyone, we will tailor each session to suit the groups sense of adventure, fitness, and ability. This is an action packed, adrenaline pumping activity and is our most popular new activity at Real Adventures, one not to be missed whilst your visiting Connemara.

What Do I Need To Bring?

We will provide you with all the necessary equipment including wetsuits, buoyancy aids, helmets and safety equipment.

All you need to bring is a towel, swimming togs/shorts, a second pair of old shorts to go over your wetsuit, an old pair of shoes you don’t mind (we have spare shoes and shorts if you don’t have your own) getting wet and a sense of adventure!

How Do I Get There?

Ballyconneely – The village of Ballyconneely is located on the R341 coast road between Clifden and Roundstone. Please aim to be there 15 mins prior to the activity start time.  You will be met in the car park across the road from Keogh’s bar, once we have everyone in the group we will drive in convoy to the coasteering start point which is about 15 mins by car.

Please make sure you know where you are going.  If you are late and there are other people in the group we will go on without you!   We will also not be held responsible for you missing out on your session.

Do I need my own transport?

Yes you do need your own transport to get to our coasteering site.  We only meet in Ballyconneely so that you can follow us to the coasteering spot as it’s not easy to find we do not do pick ups from here.

If you don’t have your own transport you could organise a taxi from Clifden to bring you all the way to our coasteering site.  (They know our locations)

Rock Climbing & Abseiling

What Will I Be Doing?

Rock climbing is one of the safest and most thrilling outdoor activities there is. You can choose different levels of climbs depending on how much of challenge you would like, even if you’re a complete beginner there is something here for you. After your climb you can experience abseiling back down to the ground, the feeling of conquering your fear and stepping over the edge is one not to be missed.

What Do I Need To Bring?

All the equipment is provided. All you need to bring are runners and suitable clothing for the outdoors.

The climbing takes place just outside Roundstone. It’s on the coast road (R341) between Ballyconneely and Roundstone.

Hill Walking

What Will I Be Doing?

Enjoy the stunning natural beauty of the Connemara mountains and either let the guide lead you leaving you to take in the surroundings or demystify the art of navigation by learning how to use a map and compass The Twelve Bens, The Maam Turks and The Mweelrea mountains in Connemara, Co Galway are all dominant topographical features in Ireland with some of the most stunning views in the country and ‘a must do’ when visiting the area.

What Do I Need To Bring?

You will need the following items:

Hiking boots/trail shoes

Lunch and plenty of water

30/40L Backpack

Suitable clothing for the weather on the day

Surfing

What Will I Be Doing?

Connemara is the perfect setting to learn to surf, whether your standing up for the first time, experiencing that tube ride of a lifetime or just sharing some ocean time with friends nothing beats the good vibes, good stories and above all great memories of the surfing life

Our surf lessons are structured in a way to make everyone feel comfortable and safe and we are passionate about ensuring all surf enthusiasts get something out of the day –no matter what your level.

Anyone who has a desire to learn surfing, is already on the way to riding that first wave! Let us show you how to get there.

The combination of a spectacular setting, good waves, small groups, highly experienced surf instructors, good vibes and the surrounds of the Wild Atlantic Way ensure a great experience -and they are always super fun days on the water!

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

What Will I Be Doing?

For your paddle boarding adventure, we will provide you with all of the necessary equipment. This includes your stand-up paddle board, paddles, wetsuit, buoyancy aids, and safety equipment. All we need you to bring with you is a towel, swimming togs/shorts, an old pair of shoes you don’t mind getting wet or dirty, and a sense of adventure.

Morning 10am – 12pm
Afternoon 2.30pm – 4.30pm
Evening 6pm – 8pm

How Do I Get There?

There is plenty of parking at the front of the hotel. Once you have parked your car there is no need to go into the hotel just walk towards the water site following the signs where there will be a changing area and direct access to the beach.

Where Do The Paddle Board Sessions Take Place?

Our paddle board tours take place on the stunning Mannin bay.  We use the back of the Connemara Sands hotel as our start point.

National Park Half Day Hike

What Will I Be Doing?

Join us on a guided half day hike in the Connemara National Park, this is a moderate two-three hour loop of Diamond hill along one of the four trails that are accessible from the park grounds. It is a looped walk that is 7km in length and has a height gain of roughly 500m.

With a guide you have the added bonus of learning about the park, its flora and fauna, the blanket bogs that are a feature of the area, the local history and wildlife.

It is one of the only walks in the area that has a path from top to bottom therefore you do not require hiking boots.

What Do I Need To Bring?

Bring a bottle of water and suitable clothes for the weather on the day.

What Time Are The Sessions?

Morning session is at 10:30 and the afternoon session is at 2:00pm

How Much Does It Cost?

Seasonal Surf Camp

What Will I Be Doing?

Our top class surf coaches will teach you everything you need to know to get you up, surfing and looking like a pro within a matter of a few hours.  

What Do I Need To Bring?

All equipment is provided. All you need is a towel and swimming togs. 

What Time Are The Sessions?

Session times change every day as they are dependent on the tide. The activity is 2.5hrs long. Where possible we will be running three sessions a day. 

How Much Does It Cost?

The surf camps costs €210 per adult and €170 per child.

 

How Do I Get There?

We will meet you at the car park across from Keoghs bar and restaurant in Ballyconneely.  You need to be there 15 minutes before in your own vehicle.  From here you will follow us to the surfing beach.  If you know where the beach is we can also meet you there.
