FAQs Sunset Kayaking

The summer sun is beautiful to feel and witness, the warmth and glow washing over you. There is no better way to spend a summer’s evening and bask in the sunset’s beautiful colours than enjoying it from a kayak on the sea. Sunset kayaking in Connemara is the perfect way to round off one of your adventure holiday in Ireland, enjoying the beautiful scenes of the inky evening sky and the orange glows of the sun. Either with a group of likeminded adventurers or with your own group of friends, you can enjoy sunset kayaking from the atmospheric and breathtaking water of the sea.

Because every sunset and sky is different from the previous, you’ll enjoy a sunset experience like nobody else that came for you. The sun’s rays will glance through the clouds or over an entirely clear blue sky, letting you enjoy the scenic Atlantic coast before you retire for the evening.

We supply all of the equipment, so you won’t need to bring anything other than a towel, warm clothes, your swimming costume, and trainers you don’t mind getting wet. Sunset kayaking is open to all abilities, so you don’t need to be experienced an experience seafarer to enjoy this experience.

We only organise our sunset kayaking trips during the summer months, so be sure to book yours whilst the weather and temperature still permits. Depending on the time of the year, we will typically begin between 6:30pm to 8pm, so make sure you are prepared for an evening of exploring and new experiences.

We will provide you with all the necessary equipment including sit on top kayaks, paddles, wetsuits, and buoyancy aids. All you need to bring are your swimming togs, a towel, a pair of trainers you don’t mind getting wet. It’s a good idea to bring warm clothes to put on after the tour as when the sun goes down it can get quite chilly.

The time varies depending on the time of year, they usually start between 6.30pm and 8pm. We will advise you of the time before your arrival.

“Incredible! My husband and I were looking for some “adventures” to take part in together during our honeymoon in Ireland. I’m SO glad we opted for the sunset kayaking adventure with Real Adventures! Clare was the perfect tour guide: friendly, informative, and experienced. It felt like we were kayaking with a friend we’d known for years! Clare is able to account for all levels of experience in kayaking – I would call myself a beginner and my husband is a little more advanced. Based on our level of comfort, Clare took us to view a variety of incredible sea caves on our tour and pointed out local wildlife and flora as well. She took pictures of us while we were on the tour and posted them within a few days for us to be able to download. It felt great to get out and do something together as a couple that was so incredibly unique, but didn’t necessarily require a huge time commitment or level of experience. All of the equipment we needed was provided to us by Real Adventures. One helpful hint: for those, like us, who did not realize that sunset in Ireland in the summer is around 10pm, be sure to eat beforehand because the local restaurants will be closed by the time you are done with your kayak. My husband and I had a late lunch and purchased some munchies and a bottle of wine from the local grocery store for a perfect end to a very romantic adventure!”
