Shopping in Connemara
There’s a massive selection of boutiques and local shops in the Connemara area. Most of these are located in Clifden Town. All are independent shops and family run businesses. Many of which can be traced back several generations. You’ll find everything from local crafts, ceramics, fine art, fashion, wooly jumpers, hand weaving, outdoor sports equipment and organic food.
Connemara Blue
Ben Crow fell in love with Connemara when on holiday here in 2009. Fast forward 12 months, and he had moved here to open Connemara Blue. This cozy boutique sells fused glass art which is designed and made right here in the shop. They also run 1 and 3 hour taster classes, so you can have a go yourself. A great rainy day activity!
Ohh by Gum!
Sharon Griffin opened Ohh by Gum! to bring her love for beautiful and ethical fashions to Clifden. Everything here is ethically manufactured and supplied, good for communities and the planet! You will find beautiful casual women’s wear & accessories. They stock a range of adorable children’s wear, in bold bright prints. They have some great gift ideas too.
Stanleys
This is a Connemara Institution. Run by the Stanley family for over 6 generations. They provide great quality outdoor clothing, as well as fishing tackle, camping equipment, shoes and boots. As well as a extensive range of tweeds and aran jumpers.
Joyce’s of Recess
Our all time favourite gift shop in Connemara. The Joyce’s have curated the best of local and national handcrafts. The imposing Giant of Connemara Sculpture stands outside the shop. Inside, paintings are by the owner Mark Joyce, who exhibits worldwide. They have a good selection of books about the local area, as well as jewellery, candles and tweeds. You really need to stop and spend some time here, to take in all of what’s on offer.
Roundstone Pottery
Seamus Laffen and Rose O’Toole run this Aladdin’s cave of ceramics. Every piece is turned and glazed right here. The shop floor opens directly into the studio allowing you to see the process. Rose’s beautiful bird and fish motif’s adorn everything from plates and jugs to tiles. Really special work, heirlooms of the future!
