Connemara activities
Other activity ideas
When you’ve tried all the activities with Real Adventures, there’s a host of other activities to keep you busy for weeks!
Horseriding
Connemara is famous for the Connemara Pony. Prized for its athletic ability and friendly nature. Meet them at Cleggan Beach Riding Centre. Galloping on a beach is one for the bucket list. Judy Cazabon has a range of safe experienced horses to suit all abilities, from beginner to experienced rider.
Golf
This is the only links course in County Galway. Enjoy great golfing at the edge of Europe. Scenic views of the ocean and Slyne Head lighthouse will follow you around the 27 hole course. There’s a clubhouse serving food all day, as well as a bar, locker rooms and showers.
Glass Workshop Connemara Blue
You can enjoy a 1 or 3 hour taster class at Connemara Blue in Clifden. Learn the basics of making a fused glass piece. Then create your own small piece. It will need to be fired over night, so you can collect your handy work the following morning.
Inishbofin
The ferry to Inishbofin island leaves from Cleggan. There are several sailings a day. If you get the first ferry you can enjoy a whole day on the island. Follow the looped walk around the island, hire a bike or go horseriding. The island is roughly 5km by 7km, and boasts stunning landscape and great views back to the mainland. It’s a world away from reality!
Kylemore Abbey
Perhaps the most photographed building in Connemara? Rightly so. This imposing Abbey stands on the banks of a lake and is framed behind by a massive mountain. It looks like a school from Harry Potter! The abbey was once a private hunting residence, and then a secondary school. The nuns still run the property and have their own chocolate factory here. The Victorian gardens are nearly fully refurbished. A must see for any plant lovers. They used to grow bananas here in the glasshouses. There is a tea room in the garden and also a restaurant, serving home cooked food. Great for a half or full day visit.
